Procurement work

Fossil-free and circular procurement is a relatively new concept in public procurement. It is a process that requires both understanding and time, so it is important to plan and prepare thoroughly for upcoming procurement activities.

To include fossil-free and circular approaches in procurement in an acceptable manner, there needs to be overall greater acceptance and dialogue about prioritizing societal benefits in procurement, both internally within the organization and in collaboration with potential suppliers.

Procurement Work – A Multifaceted Operation

Procurement work is a multifaceted activity and involves a large number of aspects to consider in order to address them with similar analyses and measures. To effectively plan and execute successful procurements, it is crucial to use a clear and familiar structure. Such a structure often follows guidelines used in environmental and quality management systems and is divided into a so-called PDCA cycle with four main phases:

  1. Plan
  2. Do
  3. Check
  4. Act

A breakdown of these aspects can preferably be separated into external factors, procurement work, costs, and internal organizational work. This approach allows for a distinction between operational aspects, such as planning and executing the procurement, and strategic aspects that include follow-up and improvement.
