Climate Target Work
Several sectors within the industry agree that public procurement must become fossil-free or climate-neutral within a few years for Sweden to achieve its long-term climate goals. This is crucial for both national climate efforts and for Sweden to meet its international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Active climate target work is ongoing in many municipalities and regions based on various initiatives. However, it is rare to set specific climate targets for procurement activities. Similar work, often called roadmaps, is taking place within several business sectors. A particular effort that engages the business sector on a global level is called Science-Based Target (SBT). It is important to utilize and direct procurement requirements towards the results of these climate-oriented efforts so that they can be used as credible bases to streamline public procurement.
Below is an overview of municipal climate target work and descriptions of the industry's climate target work at both national and international level. Additionally, various political initiatives and an international outlook are described.
