DynamO – Dynamic managment of Pacific oyster

In the DynamO project, we are working to develop a dynamic management model that can be used by authorities to manage the invasive but also commercially valuable Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas) in Sweden.

Dynamic management of the invasive Pacific oyster in Sweden

Invasive alien species pose a major threat to biodiversity. The invasive Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas) became established in Swedish waters fifteen years ago and has continued to spread along the west coast. There is concern that the species may compete with other native species, but the oyster is also one of the world's most consumed oysters. In a new project funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and FORMAS, a model for sustainable management of the invasive Pacific oysters will be developed aiming to minimise the species' negative effects while the benefits from the species are utilized in a sustainable way.
